Sibyl Noble and Denise Durrans are co-Presidents of the Utah County Medical Alliance. A biography of Denise is in the August Capsule on page 6. Information about Sibyl and a report on their activities will be in the next newsletter. Their President Elect is Sariah Hillam. Looking ahead, the Utah County Alliance will attend the UMAA Day at the Legislature on February 6, 2008. Two meetings are scheduled so far tis year focusing on internet pornography. Ralph Yarro will speak at Spanish Fork High School on CP80, and Mark Kastleman is scheduled to speak in February. They also have a cooking school set up at Chef's Table with Chef Kent on Thursday, March 13, 2008. It will be an Easter Theme with Chocolate Dessert. Also in March, Tracy Knight will speak on being prepared for the end of life for couples night out. They will also have a group of physicians on hand to sing. The county alliance is assisting with the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center Pediatric Service Project throughout the year by collecting new stuffed animals and fleece blankets for children at UVRMC. Contact Kristine Bradshaw with any questions about that project. UCMA is also supporting Utah's blueprint to promote healthy weight. This is being done in a number of ways. One is by providing nutrition placemats to pediatric and family practice offices as well as the area school districts, and by encouraging all elementary schools to participate in the Gold Medal Schools program. The county is also participating in Faux Paw and educating the community about CP-80. Medical Melodies continue to perform throughout the community as they have for over 25 years. They perform weekly in care centers all over the county as well as at local civic events. While you are a member of the state and county Alliance based upon your spouse paying UMA dues, the Utah County Medical Alliance assesses additional dues of $55 to cover annual expenses. A UCMA directory will be sent to members upon receipt of those dues. Installation will be May 3rd at the Provo Country Club. Utah County will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Alliance at the event, with vignettes representing each decade of membership. Medical melodies will be performing throughout the celebratory tribute. Sounds very ambitious and very fun.
